Urgent Call for Fair Tax Cuts and Real Support for Small Businesses

Urgent Call for Fair Tax Cuts and Real Support for Small Businesses
  • Small businesses make up 97.2% of all Australian businesses
  • They employ nearly 5 million Australians — 2 in every 5 private sector jobs
  • More than 11,000 companies have collapsed in the past year
  • Many small businesses are taxed at 25%, despite mounting financial pressures

Australia’s small businesses are in crisis.

Behind every closing shopfront is a family, a dream, and a team of workers trying to make ends meet. These businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, driving employment, innovation, and local resilience. Yet they are being left behind while costs soar and support stalls.

Big corporations have the means and influence to survive. Small businesses don’t — and they’re paying the price for it.

Enough is enough.

We call on Federal Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese and Treasurer Jim Chalmers to:

  • Deliver immediate, fair tax cuts for small businesses
  • Provide meaningful cost-of-living and cost-of-doing-business relief in the 2025 Budget
  • Cut red tape and simplify compliance burdens
  • Put small business at the centre of economic recovery and reform

This is about livelihoods, communities, and the future of our local economies.

If we don’t act now, more small businesses will collapse, more jobs will be lost, and more communities will suffer.

We need 10,000 signatures to demand a fair go for Australia’s small businesses.

Tamworth NSW is seeing a plethora of small businesses and franchises close. It has to stop!

0000-00-00 00:00:00

it is small businesses that provide real care and customer support as well as innovation and services in unusual places that are not economically sound for big business.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

I believe in being fair and helping small busineses. Not bailing out big corporations

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Small businesses need a fair go.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

because small businesses employ lots of workers and provide localised services to communities.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

It is tough for small businesses they need help

0000-00-00 00:00:00

I know of the struggle small businesses face here in Australia

0000-00-00 00:00:00

I strenuously object to corporate welfare

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Everyone . Corporations, big and small businesses and individuals should all be taxed on the amount of money they spend in this country.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

big business can look after itself

0000-00-00 00:00:00

I agree, Small businesses get a really raw deal! They need support as they are the backbone of our country.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

0000-00-00 00:00:00

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Small buisness has suffered since & during covid, yet have little support

0000-00-00 00:00:00

0000-00-00 00:00:00

The claim that small businesses are inflicted with excessive taxation, needs urgent investigation and action

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Small business is the heart of free enterprise.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

small business = people

0000-00-00 00:00:00

its unfair more big businesses stayed alive and making big money while small business had to shut downs because of governments unfairness they should of being helped to stay alive ! but Australia is becoming one law for the rich and different for the poor and we all pay our taxes maybee more the poor because the rich find anyway to evade taxes !

0000-00-00 00:00:00

big business earn enough money small business struggles and they need help as small business have more people working for them

0000-00-00 00:00:00

small business is the heart of Australia

0000-00-00 00:00:00

I own small business

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Everyday Australians need support diring this cost of living crisis and all we see from our political leaders is subsidies for our biggest, wealthiest companies

0000-00-00 00:00:00

small businesses employ a majority of workers while big corporations take all the cream & over pay the top of the chain without any real beneif to the country

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Big businesses get away with too much. Our small business owners deserve a tax break to keep our local economy strong and encourage local spending.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

small business is vital for our country

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Small businesses are a vital part of our economy employing hundreds of thousands of people ! Employment is the single most important thing fir a prosperous society.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

small businesses need to be maintained and it's not happening

0000-00-00 00:00:00

small business is the backbone of our economy

0000-00-00 00:00:00

We need to support these businesses, it so hard for them to stay afloat during these times.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

all Australians should have equal opportunities to make a success of their business, not just the big businesses.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

I believe in a fair playing field for small medium & big business. I’ve noticed many small businesses going under where my brother lives in Lithgow & many vacant shops in my hometown of Leura as well as Katoomba.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Small business is necessary for a balanced economy.. it allows greater flexibility and autonomy and promotes and supports trades and skills.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

I am a small business owner and small businesses are the backbone of the economy

0000-00-00 00:00:00

I own a small business and the excessive taxes and fees is making it almost impossible

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Diversity of services is so. important to a community. I hate the fact that conservatives always shout about small business but always give rate and taxes breaks to the large companies, such hypocrisy.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

im a small business owner

0000-00-00 00:00:00

The current taxation system is unfair to small business in comparison to the wealthiest businesses in Australia.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Im in a small family owned manufacturing business and its a constant struggle to keep the doors open. Staff, ATO, constant government regulation and poor payment security are just some of the issues that will force us to close soon.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

I worked my life a Butcher for 50 years 25 of which I was self employed in my own Business. I worked hard enjoying watching my family grow making friends along the way to see Supermarkets destroy my trade and retire with no Super on a pension. I think it is to late for me but God help the next generation.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

I am a small business owner that employs 7 people and does great work. But many big firms don’t pay us on time, steal and rebadge our IP and attempt to poach staff by offering things we can’t ( eg o/s postings). They dominate the grad market and even Engineers Australia pander to them over small business. Government also has silly rules and hoops to jump through which are more difficult for small consultancies yo meet - despite providing better advise. don’t

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Communities rely on small businesses. Big business creams off profits & these often go to overseas conglomerates who in my opinion should not be opersting in Australia in the first place.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

As a small business owner the costs of licence, fees and rediculous council regulations have increased 100%+ over the last 3yrs towards breaking point. There is no justification in most of these hikes/changes, just a double-sided bill.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

Small businesses are the Backbone of the Australian economy.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

I’m hoping for a better future for all Australian to thrive and be able to work.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

small business leases have gone up, hospitality wages have gone up, electricity has gone up.

0000-00-00 00:00:00

We ran a small business, after 4 decades we found that we were working for government, the fees and taxes were killing us. S we sold up, sad but that’s the reality now
