Australia is witnessing an increase in electric and plug-in hybrid car sales, but many are still unable to afford or access cleaner transportation options due to limited availability.
Last year, nearly 100,000 EVs and plug-in hybrids were sold, showing progress but still falling short of global proportions. To effectively tackle climate change, we need to do more.
Despite the availability of over 90 EV models in Australia, many of these models are expensive and sold in limited quantities. The majority of EV sales are dominated by just three models, with only one priced below $50,000. This lack of affordability and variety inhibits the widespread adoption of EVs among Australian consumers.
By implementing stronger vehicle efficiency standards, we can encourage the production and sale of cleaner vehicles, reduce emissions, and build a more sustainable transportation system for all Australians.
Therefore, we call on the Australian government to:
Together, let’s pave the way for a cleaner and more sustainable transportation future in Australia.
