Build More Homes for Australians: Demand Action on Australia’s Housing Crisis

Australia’s rental affordability is at a record low.

  • A household earning $116,000 can only afford 36% of available rentals.
  • Rents have surged 48% since the pandemic, while wages have risen just 19%.
  • In some states, fewer than 1 in 5 rental listings are affordable for the average worker.
  • The most affordable rentals have increased by 54% in four years, hitting low-income Australians the hardest.
  • New housing construction is slowing, even as demand reaches breaking point.

The housing crisis is forcing people to make tough choices. Australians are being priced out of their own cities. Workers can’t afford to live near their jobs. Families are crammed into overcrowded homes. Young people are giving up on ever moving out.

This is a national crisis.

We are calling the Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese and Federal Minister for Housing Clare O’Neil to:

  • Fast-track new housing developments
  • Invest in affordable housing nationwide
  • Cut red tape blocking new builds
  • Introduce policies to stabilise rents

We need 10,000 signatures before 31st May 2025. More homes mean lower rents, fewer families in crisis, and a future where all Australians have a place to call home. Sign this petition now to demand homes for Australians.
