Make medicines affordable for all Australians

Petition to: Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia & Mark Butler, Health Minister of Australia

Make medicines affordable for all Australians
  • Over 900,000 Australians have delayed or skipped prescriptions because they couldn’t afford them.
  • 30% of Australian adults have gone without vital medication, putting their health at risk.
  • 1 in 10 women have been forced to choose between their well-being and their wallet.
  • Australians still pay some of the highest out-of-pocket costs for prescription medicine in the developed world.

No one should have to gamble with their health because of prescription costs. Yet, every day, Australians are forced to make impossible choices — take their prescribed medicine or put food on the table, ration their doses or let their condition worsen. Some are ending up in hospitals. Others are not making it that far.

This is a public health emergency. The rising cost of living is crushing everyday Australians, and life-saving medicines are slipping further out of reach.

The government has taken steps to lower the cost of some medicines, but it’s not enough. Too many people are still skipping medication, still getting sicker, still suffering because they can’t afford the treatment they need.

We demand urgent action. We call on the government to:

  • Reduce the cost of all PBS-listed medicines
  • Expand access to cheaper long-term prescriptions
  • Ensure no Australian is forced to go without life-saving medication due to cost

We need 10,000 signatures before 31st March 2025 to send a clear message: too much lives are on the line. Sign the petition now.
